NFL Notes: Jets, Lions, Ravens, & Titans

Jets

  • Rich Cimini of ESPN expects the Jets to consider upgrades at the tight end position in free agency. Although, they’re likely to target a veteran, bargain-type player.
  • Cimini can’t see impending free agent ILB Demario Davis re-signing with the team.

Lions

  • Alex Marvez reports the Lions are expected to hire former Colts RB coach David Walker to the same position.
  • Walker has familiarity with Lions HC Jim Caldwell after serving under him from 2011 to 2014 while with the Colts.
  • Michael Rothstein of ESPN notes that LB Stephen Tulloch‘s $7.3 million cap number in 2016 makes him a candidate to be released this offseason.
  • Rothstein views DT Haloti Ngata as the most unpredictable player for Detroit next season because of his possible market demand, while the Lions face an immediate hole at defensive tackle should he elect to enter free agency.
  • While Rothstein says it is too early to determine if the Lions will pursue a left tackle through free agency, he could see them selecting one during the first two rounds of the NFL Draft.

Ravens

  • According to Jamison Hensley of ESPN, the Ravens did not pursue Dwight Freeney when he was available because he demanded too expensive of a contract for Baltimore.
  • Freeney signed with the Cardinals back in Oct. to a one-year, $870,000 contract with $1 million in sack incentives.
  • Of reserve receivers Jeremy ButlerMichael CampanaroDarren Waller and Chris Matthews, Hensley expects Butler to make the greatest impact among the group in 2016, while Campanaro will face a “make or break” season.
