NFL Notes: Ravens, Seahawks, Texans

Ravens

Jamison Hensley of ESPN writes that Terrance West is the Ravens’ unquestioned starter at running back.

Even so, West says he isn’t taking anything for granted.

“Anything can change any given day, any practice,” West said. “Each and every day you’ve just got to come out and perform. You’re as [good] as your last play, so that’s how I look at it.”

Seahawks

While a recent report outlined some locker room issues that have existed within the Seahawks, HC Pete Carroll stressed that the concerns are overblown and they’re in “great shape.”

“I don’t know if you guys get it,” Carroll said, via ESPN.com. “We’re in great shape. This locker room’s in great shape.

Carroll explained that he’s dedicated to the process and understands things aren’t always going to go smoothly.

I know I’m dedicated,” Carroll said. “I’m dedicated to making progress as we go. That doesn’t mean everything’s always going ahead exactly as you planned. Sometimes there’s setbacks and challenges. As a matter of fact, if you don’t count on that, you don’t understand.

“I guess things are a lot different than maybe you guys think,” Carroll said. “I don’t know that. But in here and with us and the work that we’re doing, I think that we’re in a marvelous position. That doesn’t mean that everybody’s on the same page exactly right all the time. I’m not either. We’ve got to work at it. It’s a challenge. It’s about developing relationships and working with people and helping them to find their best. That’s what we’re working at right here. We’re not doing it right all the time. But we’re trying.”

Texans

Texans QB Tom Savage mentioned that he’s taking the majority of the reps with the first-team offense and believes this is helping him “a lot” in terms of building chemistry with the team’s receiving corps.

“Just repetition and stuff we’re doing after practice and extra meetings,” Savage said, via Sarah Barshop of ESPN. “We get a limited time and we all have to meet extra a little bit after if we want to get better. That’s what it comes down to.

“When you’re a third-string quarterback, you’re not really going up to DeAndre Hopkins and telling him how you want a bow route or something. Now, communication comes in and you have to be on the same page with all of them. That’s what we’re working on now.”
