NFL Notes: Ray Rice, Bears, Broncos

Ray Rice

Peter King of MMQB.com expects Ray Rice to win his appeal case, but adds that he’ll have a difficult time finding interest as a free agent.

“I haven’t spoken to anyone who thinks the NFL will be able to keep Ray Rice suspended; it’s a clear and elongated version of double-jeopardy, and I presume judge Barbara Jones will rule thusly in about two weeks,” King writes. “But while it’s tempting to think a thumb-their-nose-at-the-league team like New Orleans could take a shot at Rice in December if its backfield is beat up then, I hear nothing reliable about specific teams intending to try to sign him if the suspension is dropped.

Bears

  • Peter King believes DC Mel Tucker should be the one to pay for the over 100 points allowed in the past two weeks.
  • King doubts the Bears will fire GM Phil Emery and HC Marc Trestman.
  • WR Brandon Marshall mentioned after Sunday night’s game that his ankle injury won’t keep him out of Week 11. (Dan Wiederer)

Broncos

  • CB Chris Harris mentioned that even though there have been discussions with the Broncos regarding a contract extension, he focused on playing football at this point in time.

“Hopefully something happens (with the extension). It would be great. If it doesn’t, I will be a free agent,” Harris said, via the Denver Post. “…We waited. It’s still late (in the season), but it’s not the end. I am going to let it play out and worry about winning Super Bowls.
