NFL Notes: Ray Rice, Playoff Re-Seeding, Robert Muller Investigation

Ray Rice

Earlier this morning, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that “at least” four NFL teams have looked into the idea of signing recently-reinstated RB Ray Rice.

According to Schefter, the Colts and Saints are among the teams to at least do some homework on Rice, even though neither is expected to sign him.

Jason La Canfora reports that many around the NFL are still wondering if the Colts could eventually bring him in if they continue to struggle to move the ball on the ground.

Beyond the Colts, La Canfora mentions that the Broncos could be someone to watch as well.

Playoff Re-Seeding

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that nothing is expected to change in regards to playoff seeding, even if a team from the NFC South finishes with only six or seven wins and receives a home playoff game.

“The view of the competition committee at this point is that if you win your division, you deserve a home game,” Rapoport said Sunday morning. “I’m told this is something they are expected to discuss this coming March for the owners’ meetings, especially if a six- or seven-win team does make the playoffs and does get to host a playoff game.”

Rapoport added that re-seeding was discussed several years ago, but was “voted down strongly.

“No one I talked to believes this will change,” Rapoport said. “What they do believe though is that the playoffs will be expanded, so at least that will answer some questions going forward.

Robert Muller Investigation

Ian Rapoport reports that most, if not all, of the interviews have been completed in the Robert Mueller investigation. Mueller is now expected to shift his focus on the culling of materials.
