NFL Notes: Richard Sherman, Cowboys, Eagles, Titans

Richard Sherman

Sheil Kapadia surveyed some ESPN reporters about potential landing spots for CB Richard Sherman if the Seahawks end up trading him.

The reporters suggested the Saints, Packers, Titans and Patriots as four teams worth watching.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported yesterday that the Seahawks aren’t just fielding calls regarding Sherman, they’ve initiated calls with other teams.

Former NFL executive Joe Banner tells Kapadia that this situation appears to be Seattle seriously attempting to move him in a trade.

I interpret their action, and I’m sure the other 31 teams do too, that they’re ready, willing and able to move him,” Banner said. “They’re acting like they really, really want to get rid of him.”

As for what the Seahawks could get for him, Banner mentions that a first-round pick and possibly another late-round selection could be enough.

I think the most they could reasonably expect to get is a one and maybe something else thrown in that’s late,” Banner said.

Although, Banner added that teams will have serious questions about why Sherman is even available.

“People will be wondering what’s gone so wrong that a team on the verge of having a real chance of going back to the Super Bowl is willing to trade a star player,” Banner said. “First-round draft picks, 40 percent of them don’t even become starters. What are you getting back? A little better than a 50/50 chance of even drafting a starter? In the meantime, you’re losing a top-tier player at an important position.

Cowboys

  • The Cowboys have six local quarterbacks working out during their local pro day including Baylor’s Seth Russell, SMU’s Matt Davis, Virginia Tech’s Jerod Evans, Tulsa’s Dane Evans, West Virginia’s Skyler Howard and UT-San Antonio’s Jared Johnson. (Dallas Morning News)

Eagles

  • Newly acquired DL Timmy Jernigan told reporters on Friday that he isn’t worried about a new contract and just wants to prove he is one of the best defensive linemen in the NFL. (Eliot Shorr-Parks)
  • Jernigan mentioned that he’s been waiting to get in a scheme like Philadelphia’s, which will allow him to be aggressive. (Zach Berman)

Titans

Paul Kuharsky of ESPN writes that the Titans drafting either LSU S Jamal Adams or Ohio State K Malik Hooker can’t be discounted, even after they brought in Johnathan Cyprien during free agency.

Titans HC Mike Mularkey recently mentioned that he expects them to have a rotation at safety in 2017.

“I think it was good the way we did things last year,” Mularkey said. “That’s how we felt about our depth at safety. I think we still have a deep position there. So, I see it continuing that way.”

The Titans have other needs including receiver, cornerback, tight end and inside linebacker, but Kuharsky mentions that it would be unwise to dismiss the notion of Adams or Hooker ending up with the Titans if they believe either can be a star player for them.
