NFL Notes: Roger Goodell, Saints, Vikings, Sam Bradford

Roger Goodell

Earlier in the day, Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen reported (NFLTR) that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has been attempting to halt the process finalizing an extension for commissioner Roger Goodell.

However, Falcons owner Arthur Blank disputed the report to Peter King.

“The speculation is incorrect,” Blank said, per King. “He is not impeding it. I got a note from him the other day. He’s comfortable with where we are.

Blank added that Jones has been operating as an “ad hoc, seventh member” of the compensation committee+ and has had “significant positive” input in the discussions, per King.

According to King, Blank seemed adamant that Jones is on board with the committee and their handling of Goodell’s contract situation while adding: “I got it in writing the other day.”

Saints

The Saints elected to bench S Kenny Vaccaro during Sunday’s loss to the Patriots and he told reporters after the game that he didn’t “know why I got pulled out.

Saints HC Sean Payton explained that they “need to get more consistent play” and this wasn’t a one-week issue.

As for the recent trade rumors involving Vaccaro, the Saints safety said he isn’t surprised to hear them.

“Nothing surprises me,” Vaccaro said, via Joel A. Erickson of the Advocate. “Any time the [General Manager] gets a call, they’re going to ask what are you willing to give? No player is indispensable except for quarterbacks and certain players around this league, so I understand it’s a business. It doesn’t bother me.

Vikings

Vikings HC Mike Zimmer offered a strange response when reporters asked about QB Sam Bradford‘s (knee) status moving forward after he wound up missing Sunday’s game against the Steelers.

Sam is fine. He might play one game from now, he might play six weeks from now. Either way, he’s fine,” Zimmer said of Bradford.

Mike Florio of PFT, citing a source with knowledge of the situation, reports that Bradford’s knee is “structurally fine” and he’s considered “day-to-day.
