NFL Notes: Saquon Barkley, 49ers, Giants, Packers

Saquon Barkley

One NFL general manager believes Penn State RB Saquon Barkley should go No. 1 overall, while a quarterback may not be selected in the top-5 of the 2018 NFL Draft since the production “isn’t there from anyone.

Right now, this isn’t a draft where you see a quarterback go top three like everyone was saying, or maybe even top five,” said an NFL GM, via Kristian Dyer of Sporting News. “The production isn’t there from anyone, and we are what, five, six or seven games in? You don’t see it.

49ers

  • Although Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee believes the 49ers could be discussing a possible trade involving LT Joe Staley for draft picks, he writes that it would seem wiser for the team to hold onto him and extend OT Trent Brown this offseason, given how difficult it is to find a good tackle in the draft.

Giants

Giants GM Jerry Reese told reporters that he is at fault for the team’s 1-6 record and it is “up to the owners” to decide whether his job is in jeopardy.

This is the roster that I put together. I’m the reason we’re 1-6,” Reese said, via Jordan Raanan of ESPN. “We do have to play better as a team. So we lose together, we win together. I believe everyone is accountable here for what goes on. We’re 1-6 together. But you can put it all on me.”

That’s up to the owners of the New York Giants,” he said. “You can ask them what they like. I just know that I come to work every day, and I know people come in here and work their behinds off every day, and so that is a question you should ask owners.
