NFL Notes: Sheldon Richardson, Broncos, Cowboys & Rams

Sheldon Richardson

  • Adam Schefter reports that the Jets also spoke to the Broncos about a trade involving DL Sheldon Richardson.
  • According to Schefter, an offseason trade involving Richardson is still considered unlikely.

Broncos

Broncos HC Gary Kubiak was asked if he was considering making a switch at the quarterback position, considering the team’s struggles in recent weeks.

“I feel really good about what Trevor’s doing, but Trevor’s like any other player — he’s got to get better,” Kubiak said, via Troy E. Renck of ABC 7 in Denver. “He is doing some good things. But like all of us, he has to be more consistent.”

Cowboys

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was asked how he thought Tony Romo would handle taking on a backup role for the team once he’s healthy enough to return.

“I don’t want to really speak for Tony,” Jones said Tuesday during an interview with 105.3 The Fan, via the Dallas Morning News. “Anybody with any sense knows that Tony would like to be playing if they understand what a competitor he is. That’s that. The key thing I want to emphasize is we probably are never going to have this totally sorted out. We’re going to play it by ear, play it as it comes. We can do that.

“To do it really right for the advantage of the team, which we deserve, he’s got to really be ready to go at the top of his game. We have the luxury of getting him that ready. When we do that, we’ve got an edge that can carry us a long way.

“I think what you’re going to have is you’re going to see Tony really playing well in practice, really being what he can be, which is in my mind, when he’s healthy, I don’t know that I’d trade him for anybody.”

Rams

Rams HC Jeff Fisher was asked if he’s uncomfortable with the fact that his future with the team has yet to be determined.

“No, actually not uncomfortable at all,” Fisher said, via Alden Gonzalez. “I’m uncomfortable because I didn’t expect to be 3 and whatever we are. But I’m not uncomfortable at all. I never look over my shoulder. No, we’re moving on. Stan (Kroenke) and I are on the same page, he understands what we’ve been through, he’s as disappointed as I am at the losses — two three points and a seven-point the last three games. He understands that we’re competitive, and we’re doing everything we can to turn this thing around.”
