NFL Notes: Stevan Ridley, Browns, Chiefs, Cowboys, & Jaguars

Stevan Ridley

  • Former Buccaneers GM Mark Domink mentioned that he expects free agent RB Stevan Ridley to sign with a new team next week. (Alex Marvez)

Browns

The recent contract signed by new Raiders C Rodney Hudson — five-year, $44.5 million — could provide a decent incentive for Browns C Alex Mack to void the remainder of his contract and test the open market again in 2016, according to Joel Corry.

Corry adds that Mack should be able to exceed the $27.55 million Hudson will receive over the first three years of the agreement if he were to test the open market after a bounce-back season.

Chiefs

Joel Corry writes that Ndamukong Suh’s new six-year, $114.375 million contract that includes $59.955 million fully guaranteed with the Dolphins will likely have a ripple effect in regards to the market for the top defensive players.

Corry specifically mentions that the asking price for Chiefs OLB Justin Houston could increase somewhere in the neighborhood of $18 million per year neighborhood with $55 million in guarantees following this contract.

Cowboys

  • Todd Archer of ESPN believes there is a “very good” chance that the Cowboys will release CB Brandon Carr if he refuses to accept a pay cut.
  • Archer thinks the Cowboys should address their defensive depth in the early rounds of the draft.

Jaguars

Many assumed that veteran TE Marcedes Lewis could be on his way out in Jacksonville following the addition of Julius Thomas in free agency.

However, Joel Corry mentions that the Jaguars could elect to keep him around based on the fact that they are required to spend 89 percent of the salary cap and Lewis would give them some depth at the position.
