NFL Notes: Supplemental Draft, Buccaneers, Raiders

Supplemental Draft

Dane Brugler of NFL Draft Scout posted his scouting reports for Supplemental draft prospects Oregon State LB Bright Ugwoegbu and Grand Valley State RB Martayveus Carter on Friday.

  • Regarding Ugwoegbu mentions that he was a “do-everything linebacker” for Oregon State, but he has the size of a safety and there are questions about where he’ll play at the next level. Brugler doesn’t expect Ugwoegbu due in part to some lackluster workout times. However, if he’s going to make an NFL roster, Brugler says it will likely be as a special teams standout.
  • As for Carter, Brugler mentions that he was highly productive at the Division-II level and possesses short-area quickness and good open-field awareness. The issues for him are that he lacks power and anticipation. According to Brugler, it’s unlikely he’ll be drafted next week.

Buccaneers

Buccaneers new DE Jason Pierre-Paul wasn’t in attendance for the start of the team’s offseason program, but he says he was working to learn the team’s defensive system while he was away.

Like I said, I’m a pro. Even though I wasn’t here I was at home studying and making sure I know the calls, the installs. That’s just something you do,” Pierre-Paul said, via Buccaneers.com. “You keep [doing] your work, keep working out – every day I woke up at 6:00 a.m. and went to the gym, got out of there at 8:00 a.m. Just stuff I’ve been doing, I’ve been keeping up, so it’s not – like I said, it was a situation that I had to take care of. I took care of it and now I’m here.”

Buccaneers HC Dirk Koetter didn’t seem to be too worried about Pierre-Paul’s absence.

Number one, the guy’s got experience and it’s not like he’s playing quarterback,” Koetter said. “So, it’s no big secret why he was brought here. He was brought here to rush the passer and he probably didn’t forget how. If he’s been working out like he says he has been, then I’m sure it’s going to pay off for us down the line.”
