NFL Notes: Tom Brady, Bears, Rams, & Titans

Tom Brady

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk writes that it’s unlikely that Roger Goodell would overturn the Ted Wells report given that he commissioned this report.

  • Ed Werder reports that commissioner Roger Goodell will likely interview John Jastremski and Jim McNally as witnesses in Tom Brady‘s appeal hearing.
  • A source tells Werder that Goodell “respects, admires” Tom Brady and wants to hear his side of story. “Maybe there’s a way out of this. Maybe not.
  • Due to the Patriots previous integrity of game violation and Tom Brady stature in the NFL, Goodell reportedly believes he has obligation to other 31 teams, according to Werder.
  • Meanwhile, the NFLPA’s stance is that if the Ted Wells report is credible and accurate, then Goodell should be willing to expose it to a neutral arbitrator, per Werder.

Bears

  • Adam Schefter reports that the Bears have hired former Ravens national scout Joe Douglas as their college scouting director.

Rams

Mike McCartney, the agent for Cowboys OL La’el Collins, told Robert Klemko of TheMMQB.com that he’s never been more anxious during a draft than he was in the seventh round this year.

McCartney and his partner Rick Smith had made it clear that they weren’t going to sign a contract if Collins was drafted after the third round.

Despite the fact that they made this clear to NFL teams, one team that said they were willing to grab Collins in the seventh round, according to Smith.

“There was a team that had drafted four offensive linemen and they said, ‘We’re taking him.’ And I texted back, ‘You’re going to embarrass yourself. You’re going to waste this pick.’ And they passed. And now he’s a UDFA,” Smith said.

It just so happens that the Rams were the only team to take four offensive linemen in this year’s draft.

Titans

Titans QB Zach Mettenberger told ESPN’s Adam Caplan that he’s “not going down without a fight to the death” in regards to the quarterback battle with Marcus Mariota.

“I don’t [know] what the mind-set is, but at the end of the day I can just control what I do and I’m extremely confident in myself, almost to a fault,” Mettenberger said, via ESPN.com. “But people who know me know I’m not going down without a fight to the death.
