NFL Notes: Tom Brady, Tim Jennings, 49ers, & Cowboys

Tom Brady

  • Albert Breer reports that that if there’s no settlement between Tom Brady and the NFL regarding his pending legal case, he wouldn’t be able to report for work on Sept. 5, barring an injunction.
  • Breer mentions that this is why Brady asked for a ruling before Sept. 4.
  • Judge Berman did say that he would try to have a ruling by then, but didn’t make any promises.

Tim Jennings

Former Bears CB Tim Jennings tells Josina Anderson that it was probably best for him to move on.

“Chicago has treated me well, greeted me with open arms and gave me an opportunity,” Jennings said. “I was able to make the best of it. But now, with the changes from the general manager to the coaching staff, I think it’s time for a change for me. I’m excited about what is next.”

Jennings mentioned that he would like to play with a solid defensive line in his next stop

It’s all going to start up front,” Jennings said of the style of defense he would like to play in, per Anderson. “I think with a great defensive line that is going to get after the quarterback, that is going to give me the ability to do what I go, which is reading quarterbacks and reading the routes. Being able to dissect certain routes knowing the ball has to come out and use my anticipation and quickness…The style of defense definitely matters, so it is going to be interesting.”

  • Mike Garafolo mentions that Jennings could be an option for teams in need of cornerback help such as the Buccaneers and Cowboys.

49ers

  • 49ers HC Jim Tomsula said the situation involving OLB Ahmad Brooks is “day to day.” (Matt Barrows)
  • According to Tomsula, Brooks will not practice with the team this week. (Matt Barrows)

Cowboys

  • Charles Robinson reports that the Cowboys remain “locked into a true running back committee” this season.
  • According to Robinson, the Cowboys believe Darren McFadden is the “best of the bunch.
  • Even though they like McFadden’s ability, Dallas still believes it will likely have to replace DeMarco Murray with a committee approach this season.
