49ers

49ers GM John Lynch tells Matt Maiocco CSN Bay Area that their decision to host with Buccaneers restricted free agent DE Jacquies Smith for a visit (NFLTR) was to get him checked out medically.

We wanted to get him checked out medically, and we’ll see,” Lynch said at the NFL owners meetings.

Rams

Redskins

Redskins president Bruce Allen tells JP Finlay of CSN Washington that the decision to fire GM Scot McCloughan was difficult based on his history with him and his family.

It was difficult because his father and brother and I worked together for a number of years with the Raiders and enjoyed success together,” Bruce Allen said. “When I brought [Scot McCloughan] to the Redskins obviously I was hoping for a good marriage. It is disappointing.”

However, Allen felt it was best to give the organization some clarity regarding during free agency.

“I thought on the first day of the league year [March 9], the free agents we were bringing in, we needed clarity. And for our scouts to continue the good work we were doing we needed clarity for the season,” Allen said. “The opening day made the decision.
