NFL Notes: Tony Romo, Robert Griffin III, Draft, Browns, & Eagles

Tony Romo

  • Cowboys QB Tony Romo (collarbone) announced via his Twitter account Thursday that his “surgery has healed up nicely” and he’s “looking forward to OTA’s and a full offseason.”

Robert Griffin III

Former Redskins HC Mike Shanahan mentioned that no one reached out him regarding QB Robert Griffin III during free agency. However, he did speak with Rams HC Jeff Fisher and told him that he believes RGIII can still be a successful quarterback in the league.

I didn’t have one person call me and ask me my opinion on Robert,” Shanahan said on ESPN 980. “I thought I’d get a number of them, but I did talk to (LA Rams Head Coach) Jeff Fisher. I called him.  We were talking about something else, and I had heard [about] the Jets, and I heard about the Broncos… and I said, ‘Hey. I know there’s a lot of things out there that come across negative, especially with my name on it, and I’d just like to tell you how I feel about them.  I think if he goes back and we do some of the things that we did as a rookie, not that he hasn’t grown in different areas, he’s got a chance to be successful.‘”

Draft

  • Rand Getlin reports that the Cowboys worked out Oregon DL DeForest Buckner last week and have a visit lined up with him.
  • Matt Miller spoke with an NFL team regarding Oregon QB Vernon Adams who said they have him rated as their No. 22 quarterback in this year’s draft class. Another team told Miller that they don’t even have Adam ranked at all.

Browns

Browns QB Josh McCown mentioned during an interview with Pro Football Talk that he plans to come in and compete with newly signed QB Robert Griffin III for the starting job.

However, if that ends up not being the case, McCown is willing move on and play for a different team.

“Right now, it’s come in and compete and show up, so that’s what I’ll do,” McCown said. “If that changes, that changes, and I’ll go to that next place and compete there as well. . . . I’ll go with that mindset, and if they see differently and I am traded or moved along, I’ll appreciate my time there and then go embrace the next opportunity.”

“You want to compete and you want to have a shot to play, and so if a guy comes in and he’s perceived to be the starter, as a competitor, you don’t like that,” McCown added. “But at the same time, understand that when you go through a coaching change and a restructuring of the organization, they’re going to do whatever they can to help this football team be better. And so as a Cleveland Brown, I’m all for that and I’m behind that 100 percent, so we welcome Robert into the quarterback room as a part of our team, and I’ll do everything I can to help Robert.

Eagles

  • ESPN’s Adam Caplan reports that the Eagles are working out Penn State QB Christian Hackenberg next week.
