NFL Notes: Vince Wilfork, Browns, Eagles

Vince Wilfork

Free agent DT Vince Wilfork tells Ben Volin of the Boston Globe that he’s taking his time deciding about whether to return to the NFL or retire.

I’m taking my time with it, because when I make a decision I want to be 100 percent confident in my decision,” Wilfork said. “There’s no rush. I’m just sitting back, enjoying my time right now, just kicking it.”

Wilfork, 35, is a former first-round pick of the Patriots back in 2004. After 11 years in New England Wilfork signed on with the Texans in 2015. He played out the final year of his two-year, $9 million contract and would be an unrestricted free agent in the coming months.

In 2016, Wilfork appeared in 15 games for the Texans and recorded 21 tackles, no sacks and a pass defense. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 98 interior defensive lineman out of 123 qualifying players.

Browns

  • According to Terry Pluto of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Browns plan to use Ryan Grigson almost like a “super scout.”
  • Pluto says that Grigson will cover both pro and college players and will even visit some colleges to research prospects.

Eagles

Eagles HC Doug Pederson mentioned that competition has sharpened former first-round WR Nelson Agholor this offseason.

“As I’ve said all along, competition, man, sharpens you,” Pederson said, via ESPN.com. “And that’s what I’ve seen from Nelson. He’s done a great job already this spring.

Agholor explained that he thinks his struggles have been a result of him trying to do too much too soon and getting in his head.

“I think I was worried about taking such a large leap in a day. It’s all about getting better consistently each day, even if it’s just a little bit,” Agholor said. “Some of the best players in this league, they didn’t just become really great the first day they’re there. It took a process and continuous progression every day, so that’s my focus right now.”

Agholor added that his goals are beyond just winning a roster spot this summer.

Do I feel like [I’m fighting for a roster spot]? I feel like I want to be one of the best players on this team,” Agholor  said, “and that takes care of it right there. I want to be a guy, when you watch him on tape, you’re like, ‘Yeah, I need him.’ It don’t matter about a roster spot. The best players play and I want to be one of the best players, and that’s what I focus on every day.
