- Former NFL QB Vince Young was released by the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Saturday after he, unfortunately, suffered a torn hamstring, according to his agent Leigh Steinberg.
Bills HC Sean McDermott mentioned that first-round CB Tre’Davious White has integrated himself so well in their defense that he’s wondered at times if he should be more concerned about him.
“Really, I’ve had to sit back in my office up there and ask myself why haven’t I noticed Tre’Davious, in terms of why am I not concerned about him?” McDermott said, via the Buffalo News. “As a defensive coordinator I was a lot closer to the defense at times, so I’ve been asking myself is it because of that or is it because he’s just integrated himself so smoothly into the NFL and what we do? He’s mature beyond his years. Really, what we thought he was coming out of LSU.”
According to McDermott, White has made plays during offseason workouts that resemble a second- or third-year player.
“He’s made plays on the football. He’s shown up in that regard in a positive light and when I look out there I’m looking at a player that – he plays like a second- or third-year player at this point,” McDermott said.
While the Jets haven’t said anything publicly about their rebuilding plans, Rich Cimini says it’s clear that their focus is on next year’s quarterback-heavy draft. The top three quarterbacks prospects expected to come out in 2018 are USC’s Sam Darnold, UCLA’s Josh Rosen, and Wyoming’s Josh Allen.
Cimini spoke with an AFC scout about these three quarterbacks and he doesn’t think the Jets could go wrong with either of them.
“It makes a whole lot of sense if they get a Sam Darnold to start their re-boot,” the scout said. “Honestly, if they’re pulling a Cleveland Browns, they can’t go wrong with any one of these guys.”
- The scout believes Darnold is a better prospect than Patrick Mahomes and Mitch Trubisky, even though his arm isn’t as good as some of the other prospects.
- Of the three, the scout considers Rosen to be the most polished quarterback prospect and resembles more of a prototypical pocket passer.
- As for Allen, the scout says he has some “freakish tools and size and arm strength” and overall is similar to Mahomes.
