NFL Notes: Von Miller, Broncos, Bills, Chargers, & Eagles

Von Miller

  • Troy Renck of the Denver Post writes that it will still be some time before the Broncos and franchise OLB Von Miller have an agreement in place on a long-term deal that will make him the highest paid defensive players in the league at around $20 million per year.
  • Denver would reportedly prefer to pay him closer to $18 million annually. However, Renck mentions that the holdup is likely due to how much money will be paid out in the first two years of the contract.
  • In the end, Miller is likely to secure as much as $60 million guaranteed in his next deal.

Bills

  • Tyler Dunne of the Buffalo News believes veteran WR Greg Salas may actually have a leg up in regards to being the Bills’ No. 3 receiver.
  • While Manny Lawson is expected to see more work at the start of the news following the news that first-round OLB Shaq Lawson needs shoulder surgery, Dunne writes that it would be a mistake to right off Corbin Bryant.

Chargers

Chargers GM Tom Telesco mentioned that he was “very happy” after the trade between the Eagles and Browns for the No. 2 overall pick went down because it meant that they were going to get their top player — Joey Bosa.

“Oh, I was very happy when that trade went down because that’s one less team that could take Bosa,” Telesco said, via Chargers.com. “…We still didn’t know what the Browns would do at two. With a new front office and a new head coach, we had no idea what their thoughts were.  Would they go offense? Defense?  Quarterback or no quarterback? I don’t put too much into listening on the outside to what people are saying about them, because I heard a lot of stuff about us that was way off.  I had no idea about Cleveland and what they were going to do, so we kept preparing for different scenarios.

John got the text and told us about the trade, and we all high-fived in the room after that one because we knew if we stayed here and picked, we got him.”

Chargers President of Football Operations John Spanos said he has no idea where the rumors of them targeting OT Ronnie Stanley at No. 3 overall started, but he found them amusing nonetheless.

Sometimes when you hear rumors you can piece together where it came from,” Spanos said. “In the specific case of the Ronnie Stanley rumor, I have no clue where that came from. So I was really amused, and I didn’t feel a need to set the record straight. I just sat back and enjoyed the false speculation.

Eagles

According to new Eagles HC Doug Pederson, veteran Allen Barbre is currently their starting left guard, despite adding Stefen Wisniewski in free agency and using a third-round pick on Isaac Seumalo.

“Right now, it is Allen Barbre‘s job,” Pederson said, via Philly.com. “I think again that’s something we did through the draft and a little bit of free agency is to kind of shore up that spot. I really like where we’re at. I like the depth at that position right now. But yeah, Allen Barbre is my guy and he’s our starter.”
