NFL Notes: Von Miller, International Games & Lions

Von Miller

  • Former Buccaneers GM Mark Dominik mentions that the $87 million guaranteed (for injury) received by Andrew Luck in his new extension with the Colts will help Von Miller and his agents position when targeting more guaranteed money in a new contract.
  • It’s worth mentioning that the fully guaranteed money in Luck’s contract wound up being $47 million, which is short of the $59.995 million fully guaranteed DT Ndamukong Suh got from the Dolphins. Miller will likely be focused on this figure as well.

International Games

Packers president Mark Murphy mentioned that the idea of adding a 17th game while reducing the preseason to three games has been discussed.

This would open the door for every team to play an international game without sacrificing a home game.

“As you look ahead, if we’re going to have more and more international games, something’s got to give at some point,” Murphy said, via ESPN.com. “One thought that’s been discussed is to go to 17 [regular-season games] and three [preseason] and then everybody would have an international game. So nobody would have to give up a home game then.”

For what it’s worth, NFLPA executive George Atallah responded to this suggestion by tweeting: “HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA 😂😂😂😂😂

Atallah added: “Nothing says “committed to player health and safety” like wanting to add more contact to the offseason and a 17th regular season game abroad.”

Lions

Kyle Meinke of MLive.com writes that Lions first-round pick Taylor Decker appears to have a firm grip on the team’s left tackle job as they prepare to head into training camp.

What you’ve seen out there on the field is he still works both (left and right tackle), a little bit,” coach Jim Caldwell said. “He’s playing more left tackle than anything else at this point. Pads go on when we come back, so we’ll see.”
