NFL Notes: Wes Welker, Packers & Steelers

Wes Welker

Free agent WR Wes Welker visited with the Dolphins on Monday to work with the team’s receivers.

He shows up,” Dolphins HC Adam Gase said, via Pro Football Talk. “I mean he lives like five minutes away. I think we’re a good outlet for him and he’s been a guy that with my history with him in Denver, I love being around him. He’s such a football guy. For him to come out there and if our guys get one thing from him, I think that’s a great, great thing for our guys to have a guy that’s probably one of the best slot receivers of all-time being in the building. The way that he worked, the way he studied, everything he did as far as football . . . just talking to him, it helps our players out.”

However, Gase was clear in that they have no plans to sign Welker to a contract.

Packers

  • Packers WR Jordy Nelson will not take part in one-on-one drills or contact until training camp, according to Jason Cole of B/R.
  • However, Nelson told Cole that he would be ready to play now if there was a game.
  • Cole adds that the Packers plan to be very cautious with Nelson this summer, considering how much they missed him last year.
  • Packers HC Mike McCarthy said that TE Jared Cook‘s foot injury isn’t considered to be a long-term issue. McCarthy wasn’t willing to offer a timetable for Cook right now, but he did say that their doctors feel good about his return. (Pete Dougherty)

Steelers

  • Aaron Wilson reports that the Steelers worked out former UNLV TE Jake Phillips on Monday.
