NFL Reinstates Former Redskins TE Fred Davis

Pro Football Talk, citing a league source, reports that the NFL has reinstated former Redskins TE Fred Davis from the suspended list on Thursday.

Davis is now a free agent and able to sign with a team of his choosing.

Last February, Davis received an indefinite suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. However, he was arrested the next day for a DUI.

Davis, 29, is a former second round pick of the Redskins back in 2008. He played out his rookie contract with the team and wound up receiving the franchise tag back in 2012. Washington later signed him to a one-year deal before allowing him to depart as a free agent in 2014.

While Davis is a free agent, it’s hard to imagine him having a great deal of interest given the numerous off-the-field issues he’s dealt with since entering the league.

He last appeared in an NFL game during the 2013 season and caught just seven passes for 70 yards receiving and one touchdown.
