Report: “Good Chance” Greg Hardy Is Suspended For First Six Games Of 2015

Update:

Peter King of MMQB.com reports that teams around the league believe there’s a “good chance” free agent DE Greg Hardy will be suspended for the first six games of the season.

King adds that the public scrutiny a team would get from signing would likely be “ intense and distracting.

An NFL GM tells King that Hardy “is on our list, but pretty far down.

According to King, the best fits for Hardy would be: the Cowboys, Falcons, Buccaneers, Chargers, or Jaguars.

According to Jason Cole of the Bleacher Report, the NFL continues to delay a ruling regarding his involvement in a domestic violence incident that was eventually settled out of court.

Cole mentions that the league will once again review the agreement today, which means there may not be an announcement until Wednesday.

Cole previously reported that the NFL was expected to have announce a statement regarding Hardy by Thursday of last week, but that obviously wasn’t the case.

Sources have told Cole in recent weeks that Hardy is expected to receive either a one- or two-game suspension.

By accepting a suspension from the NFL, Cole mentioned that Hardy will have essentially exonerated himself of any wrong doing in this case.

Given that a suspension could be coming for Hardy, Cole anticipates that this will have an impact on the length of contract Hardy will ultimately sign, as well as the guaranteed money included in his next deal.

Cole said previously that Hardy is still seen as a “highly valuable” commodity and could get as much as $25-$30 million guaranteed in free agency. Although, teams will wait until they know much time he’ll miss.

Hardy, 26, wound up appearing in just one game and recorded four tackles, one sack, and a forced fumble before he was placed on the commissioners expect list.

Last year, the Panthers used their franchise tag on the defensive end, which paid him a salary of $13.116 million for the 2014 season. However, all indications are that Carolina has moved on and he won’t be back with the team.

We have Hardy listed as the No. 5 player in our Top 100 Free Agents list.
