NFL Rumors: 49ers, Chargers, Cowboys, Eagles, & Saints

49ers

  • Ian Rapoport reports that the 49ers are spending Wednesday working out Cal QB Jared Goff, along with a number of the team’s wide receivers.

Chargers

Rand Getlin reports that the Chargers are hosting Oregon DL DeForest Buckner for a visit on Wednesday.

  • According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, the Chargers and the NFL are willing to pay $650 million and a 4 percent increase in the hotel tax as part of a $1 billion stadium project in San Diego.
  • The city, however, would be asked to cover the remaining $350 million of the stadium costs.
  • The Chargers would then sign a thirty-year lease to stay in San Diego instead of joining the Rams in Inglewood.

Cowboys

ESPN’s Ed Werder mentioned that current Browns QB Josh McCown could make sense for the Cowboys as a backup once he’s released.

“I think the team failed the backup quarterback as much as the backup quarterback failed the team,” Werder explained, via the Dallas Morning News. “That being said, Jerry said that they understood the importance of that position. And once they really did because they were paying Kyle Orton $5 million a year a few years ago and they justifying that by saying, ‘We recognize how important it is to have two quarterbacks you can win with.’ I don’t really understand the disconnect now given the experience they just had why they haven’t gone out and gotten a legitimate backup quarterback. Maybe it’ll be Josh McCown, who hasn’t been cut yet in Cleveland, if he gets cut at all. I think he would be an excellent choice for the job. Let’s see how it all plays out. But yeah, at this point, I’m surprised they only have what they do on the roster, that primarily being Kellen Moore and Tony Romo at the position.”

Eagles

  • Ian Rapoport reports that the Eagles will work out NDSU QB Carson Wentz today after meeting with Stanford QB Kevin Hogan yesterday and Cal QB Jared Goff on Monday.
  • According to Rapoport, the Eagles will work out Memphis QB Paxton Lynch on Thursday.
  • Rapoport mentions that Philadelphia is serious in regards to their workouts with quarterback prospects, as they even have owner Jeffrey Lurie along for each of their visits.
