NFL Rumors: 49ers Drafting A QB In The 2nd Round?

Gil Brandt of NFL.com reports that San Francisco 49ers new head coach Jim Harbaugh was only coach to attend TCU QB Andy Dalton‘s pro day. Other teams in attendance included the Cincinnati Bengals and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

As Matt Bowen of the National Football Post notes, the fact that Jim Harbaugh attended Dalton’s pro day makes sense for the 49ers considering that they may be looking at taking a quarterback in the second-round rather than selecting one with the No. 7 pick overall. Bowen also mentions that the team will consider other quarterbacks that have experience in pro-style offenses such as Dalton, Florida State’s Christian Ponder and Iowa’s Ricky Stanzi.

Not that bad of an idea considering that the 49ers are a team that is a good position to compete with their division if they can add a solid veteran quarterback. Grabbing a young QB in the draft would allow them to develop him without sacrificing their chances of making the playoffs.
