NFL Rumors: A.J. Green No. 1 Overall?

ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted some interesting news about Georgia WR A.J. Greens stock yesterday.

“After talking to seven personnel men today, it sounds like Georgia WR A.J. Green is the top-rated player in the draft. We’ll see if he goes No. 1.”

It’s worth noting that a lot of teams create their boards based on overall talent but that doesn’t always translate into them taking the player that’s sitting on top. There has been plenty of speculation that Alabama WR Julio Jones could be passing Green as the top wide receiver in the upcoming draft but Green’s talent remains unquestioned.

As for him being taken with the first pick in the 2011 draft, the Panthers could definitely use a star-wide receiver but taking Green with No. 1 pick wouldn’t be the best idea. Carolina has several needs that should be addressed before wide receiver and given the amount of money that they are likely to invest in pick, it would make sense to grab a top player at either quarterback, defensive tackle or cornerback.
