NFL Rumors: A Vote Against The Cardinals Taking Gabbert?

It was just a few weeks ago that it appeared as though the Arizona Cardinals love to see Blaine Gabbert available at No. 5 overall but from Larry Fitzgeralds recent comments, the idea seems like it’s no longer a certainty.

“I would doubt that we would draft a quarterback that high (No. 5),” Fitzgerald told FOX Sports Arizona. “I would doubt it. But, who am I? I’m just a player.”

Arizona is another team that’s in a position to take the best available player without worrying about whether or not they fit their team. The Cardinals have plenty of needs, especially on the defensive side of the ball, so taking a Patrick Peterson or a Von Miller would make a good deal of sense for them.

Both Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic and Darren Urban of AZCardinals.com have already mentioned that their not buying into the idea that the team will take a quarterback in the first-round.

If Arizona isn’t willing to take a quarterback that high in the draft, second-round targets like Christian Ponder, Ryan Mallett and Andy Dalton will most likely be considered. Bringing in a veteran quarterback like Marc Bulger is starting to look like a stronger possiblity.
