NFL Rumors: Bengals Considering Ryan Mallet?

Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer writes that the Cincinnati Bengals “would go for one in the second,” if they end up missing out on one of the top two quarterbacks (Cam Newton & Blaine Gabbert). Reedy mentions that Arkansas QB Ryan Mallett will visit the team later in the week.

The Carson Palmer drama will force the team to consider taking a quarterback at some point in the draft. Mallett is considered to have the best arm in the draft but off-the-field issues and character concerns have tanked his draft stock and could push him back into the second-round. The Bengals have been known to take on players that have character issues so adding Mallett wouldn’t be that surprising.

The biggest question marks in the upcoming draft are surrounding the mid-level quarterback prospects like: Jake Locker, Ryan Mallett, Christian Ponder, Andy Dalton and Colin Kaepernick. With so many teams that are in need of a quarterback, anyone of the listed quarterbacks could go in the first-round depending on whether or not teams are willing to reach for a player that fits a major need.
