NFL Rumors: Bengals Drafting A QB?

Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com writes that the Cincinnati Bengals are “clearly shopping in the quarterback aisle” to find a possible replacement for Carson Palmer.  Head coach Marvin Lewis is already proceeding as if they’ll be without Palmer for the coming season.

It’s been reported that Bengals owner Mike Brown has been sitting on some of the interviews with quarterbacks which, if it ends up being true, would suggest that the team is in fact serious about finding Palmers replacement. Brown stated earlier that he had no intention of trading his franchise quarterback but Palmer’s steadfast approach leaves the team in a predicament that they cannot pass off as a bluff. A parallel could easily be drawn between the current situation and what happened with Boomer Esiason some years back when he requested to be traded and Cincinnati wound up drafting David Klingler as his replacement.

The good news for Bengals fans is that even if they pass on drafting a quarterback at No. 4 they’ll have a good shot at one of the second-tier quarterback in the second-round but it would be a mistake to rule out the possibility that they go with a quarterback at No. 4.
