NFL Rumors: Bills Drafting A QB?

Buffalo Bills head coach has mentioned that he is comfortable with Ryan Fitzpatrick as the teams quarterback heading into the 2011 season but that doesn’t seem to be preventing him from taking a long look at some of the quarterback prospects in the draft, specifically Blaine Gabbert and Cam Newton.

“I can tell you right now there’s no question they have an outstanding skill set, both of them,” Gailey told SI’s Don Banks.  “Outstanding. Not average. Not above average. Outstanding. Both of them [will] play early and long. I knew that after I watched them on tape.”

Former Rams executive Tony Softli thinks that the Bills have serious interest in Cam Newton.

“Don’t be surprised if quarterback-friendly head coach Chan Gailey makes a hard play for Newton if he is still on the board.  Sources say they feel [Newton] is the franchise quarterback for the Bills’ organization and would have time to develop because of [Ryan] Fitzpatrick’s presence on the roster,” Softli writes.

Gailey has long been known as a quarterbacks coach which gives them as good of a chance as any to develop Newton into a solid NFL quarterback for a team that has been in desperate need of a franchise quarterback for a number of years.
