NFL Rumors: Blaine Gabbert Rumors

Missouri QB Blaine Gabbert is holding his much anticipated Pro Day today which will likely end up having an impact on the first ten picks of the NFL Draft.

Carolina Panthers

There are a number of draft experts that have Gabbert listed as the best overall quarterback in the 2011 draft but as Darin Gantt of the Charlotte Observer reports the Carolina Panthers are not as high on the quarterback.

“Bottom line on [Blaine Gabbert]: Haven’t had one scout/coach/personnel type I know tell me: ‘Love him. Will be a star.’ Looks like one. Is he one?” writes Gantt.

Teams appear to be concerned about Gabbert’s ability to stretch the field. In college, he was known for his intermediate passing game rather than a deep passing attack.

Gantt mentions that the Panthers are likely to take Cam Newton at No. 1 but could also go with either Patrick Peterson or Marcell Dareus.

One other note. The Panthers do not have their big rep’s at Gabberts Pro Day but their individual workout with Gabbert will have a bigger impact on their decision than today’s workout will.

Buffalo Bills

Gil Brandt of NFL.com reports that Gabbert had dinner with some of the Buffalo Bills representatives last night but there hasn’t been any indication that Bills head coach Chan Gailey was there.

There definitely is a chance that the Bills could grab Gabbert with their No. 3 overall pick but Chan Gailey has defended the play of Ryan Fitzpatrick and thinks that he can be a solid quarterback in the NFL.
