NFL Rumors: Bradshaw Re-Signing With The Giants?

Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPNNewYork.com writes that the “Giants are expected to re-sign Bradshaw.” Simple enough. The real question will be whether or not they are able to retain RB Ahmad Bradshaw for just the 2011 season or will they give him a longterm contract.

There’s a pretty good chance that the 2011 season will operate under the same rules as 2010 which basically means that there may not be a salary cap and it would require free agents to have accumulated 6 season in order to become an unrestricted free agent.

Bradshaw is only 25 years old and has a limited amount of wear and tear. He showed last last season that he’s the teams best running back despite the fumbling issues that he maintained throughout the season. Brandon Jacobs is a bigger gamble than Bradshaw mainly because he is only effective running straight ahead while Bradshaw is very effective in the passing game. You could even make the argument that Bradshaw is a better goal-line than Jacobs because of the fact that he can cut it outside and out run defenders while Jacobs seems incapable of turning the corner.

All things considered, signing Bradshaw to a longterm deal would be a good move for the Giants because it’s unclear how much longer Jacobs will be a productive player. Having Bradshaw on their roster would allow them to look for one RB rather than a new backfield.
