NFL Rumors: Champ Bailey Back In Denver?

At the beginning of lat season, the Denver Broncos and Champ Bailey decided to brake off talks regarding a possible contract extension which made it seem as though it was just a matter of time before they would end up going their separate ways.

This morning reports began to surface that talks are back on between the Broncos and Bailey which brings some optimism that there’s a chance a deal could get done.

“He’s a guy we definitely want to bring back,” Broncos new head coach John Fox told Mike Klis of the Denver Post.   “You never know how things like that work out, but we’re moving forward as best we know how.”

Before people started getting excited about Champ possibly returning, it is worth noting that Josina Anderson is reporting  that Champ Bailey has placed his Colorado home on the market which isn’t exactly the best indication that he plans on playing in Denver come next season.

Despite putting up another solid season, many feel that committing longterm contract to Bailey is a risky idea given his age (turning 33). Denver is in need of play-makers so it makes some sense for them to consider keeping Bailey but the real question is whether or not they’re close enough to competing in the AFC West which is getting harder each and every year with Oakland and Kansas City getting increasingly better.

Turnarounds can happen quickly in the NFL but the Broncos will have plenty of work ahead of them if they think they can make some serious progress next season.
