NFL Rumors: Chances That Brian Westbrook Returns To Philly

In an interview with Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia, Brian Westbrook mentioned that he remains in regular contact with Eagles head coach Andy Reid and appears eager and open to the idea of returning to Philadelphia.

“I talk to coach Reid every week or so,” says Westbrook. “We always talk, and I would love to be back in Philly. So we’ll see how things go. I think I can help out. I think they have a very good group of young guys on this team at every position, but I still think I can help this team win.”

Westbrook was used sparingly last season in San Francisco so the fact that he’s open to returning to the city where he made a name known is all that surprising. The problem for him and many other veteran running backs is that teams are reluctant to bring in skill position players that have a decent amount of mileage. Westbrook was still effective in his limited use last season for the 49ers so he could be a productive third-down back for a team that is in need of running back depth.

Interestingly enough, the Eagles happen to be in need of such a player so the idea of him returning isn’t that far fetched. We’ll just have to wait and see whether Andy Reid has any interest in bringing him back.
