NFL Rumors: Chiefs Drafting A Quarterback?

According to agent Brian Ayrault, the Kansas City Chiefs have “shown a lot of interest” in UNC quarterback T.J. Yates and even have a workout scheduled with new quarterbacks coach Jim Zorn for today.

ESPN’s Matt Williamson suggests that Matt Cassel could be in a make-or-break situation depending on whether or not he struggles this season.

Cassel’s play during the playoffs was pretty poor but then again, it looked as though they were beat in more ways than just Cassel’s performance. Drafting a quarterback that’s not even considered to be one of the ten best players at the position shouldn’t raise any alarms as it’s unlikely that the Chiefs will be starting T.J. Yates in the coming years but if Cassel struggles next season the team could be looking for a better option.

  1. we should really go after him if matt cassel cant do plus we can use t.j as a backup for 1 year and and let jim zorn teach him the game and then we proble will have a another joe flacco wat do u think

    • It really couldn’t hurt to add a cheap quarterback prospect that they can develop into a serviceable backup.Matt Cassel’s play during the 2011 season will end up influencing the teams draft strategy come 2012 so having a player that’s familiar with the teams offense definitely an asset.

Jim Zorn’s impact on the quarterbacks that he’s worked with has been fairly productive for the most part so having him on their staff should help the team now that Charlie Weis has left for the University of Florida.

Kansas City has managed to piece together a roster that has plenty of talent in key areas but they really need to solidify positions like Wide Receiver and Defensive End before they can be considered one of the top NFL teams.
