NFL Rumors: Cowboys Keeping Roy Williams?

Dez Bryant‘s recent run-in with some mall cops in a Dallas-area shopping mall may actually have an impact on the teams decision to keep Roy Williams for the 2011 season, if you can believe that.

Dallas Cowboys writer Nick Eatman mentions that the Bryant’s off-the-field issues could force the team to considering retain Williams despite his ridiculous $9.25 million salary for the 2011 season.

“With Roy, you’ve got a veteran player who was having a great start last year when Tony Romo was healthy,” Eatman says. “He’s big, strong and physical and he’s been a good in the red zone. No, Roy Williams isn’t a special receiver right now, and not sure he ever was. But with Dez being … well Dez, I think the Cowboys would be crazy to part ways with Roy Williams and put any more faith in this guy than they’ve already done. The worst thing that can happen is to have too many good receivers on this team.”

Roy Williams appeared to be on the chopping block because of his salary but he was a valuable player for Cowboys last season. There’s a chance that both sides could come to an agreement upon a more reasonable salary which would allow the team to maintain depth at the receiver position.
