NFL Rumors: Denver Broncos Targeting Rick Dennison As Next Coach?

NFL Networks Jason La Canfora reports that the Houston Texans offensive coordinator Rick Dennison appears to be in the lead for the Denver Broncos head coaching job.

Dennison doesn’t bring an overwhelming amount of experience to the table and is better at dealing with running game all of which could lead the Broncos to pair him with a more experienced coach and play caller that has had success with quarterbacks. Josh McDaniels anyone? Just kidding, I thought that was funny.

If you look at the teams that have had success while undergoing  a leadership change, they usually have a strong coaching staff that has helped bring balance to an otherwise unstable environment. The Kansas City Chiefs are a good example of this. Where would the Chiefs have been if they had not chosen to bring in Charlie Weis and Romeo Crennel? Probably not in the playoffs. There are a lot of coaches who excel as coordinators and fail as head coaches so finding someone that will give the Broncos an identity will go a long way in determining their success. If John Elway and company elect to go with Dennison, the teams success will have a lot more to do with who fills the coordinator positions than the head coach.
