NFL Rumors: Free Agency, 49ers, Jets

Free Agency

  • According to La Canfora, free agent WR Sammy Watkins may end up agreeing to a “bridge” contract. The Rams are reportedly interested in re-signing Watkins and he’s open to returning to Los Angeles.
  • La Canfora says that the Ravens are focused on Colts free agent WR Donte Moncrief and have a “real shot” of landing him, even though there will be other teams involved.
  • According to La Canfora, “it’s only a matter of time before teams come calling on Eagles end Vinny Curry.” La Canfora adds that there’s “real potential” for the Eagles to move Curry in a trade.
  • Regarding the Cardinals’ quarterback search, La Canfora says they could end up being a position where they get to choose from either A.J. McCarron or Sam Bradford.
  • Some GMs have told La Canfora that McCarron could be a short-term option for the Bills, even though it appears as though they’re focused on getting a quarterback in the draft.
  • According to La Canfora, it would be a “major upset” if Panthers G Andrew Norwell ends up signing a team other than the Giants.
  • The Packers, Titans, Buccaneers and Texans are reportedly doing a lot of work on free agent cornerbacks and one of them is likely to end up signing Trumaine Johnson. Of this group, La Canfora believes the Texans are the team to watch.

49ers

Jets

  • Jason La Canfora expects the Jets to “put some very heavy and creative figures” in front of Kirk Cousins in an attempt to get him under contract.
  • La Canfora says that New York has no plans to bow down the Vikings in regards to their pursuit of Cousins.
  • However, should Cousins sign elsewhere, La Canfora expects the Jets to turn their attention to Josh McCown or Teddy Bridgewater.
  • The Jets are reportedly interested in RB Dion Lewis, LB Avery Williamson, and CB Malcolm Butler.
  • Meanwhile, they would like to re-sign TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins, but there’s expected to be competition for him from the teams such as the Falcons and Seahawks.
