NFL Rumors: Giants Steve Smith Staying In New York?

New York Giants WR Steve Smith told the New York Post that he thinks that the team will reward him with a new contract during the offseason.

“I think the Giants are going to reward me with a contract this year,” said Smith. “They told me that.”

While Smith’s optimism suggests that both sides are open to the idea, it will be interesting to see if that equates to the type of deal that he’s looking for because he is coming off an injury that required microfracture knee surgery. Despite the injury Smith will only be 25 come next year so he should have plenty of years a head of him.

The receiving core that the Giants have put together over the last few years has grown into one of the best units in the game and pairing Smith with Hakeem Nicks could give Eli Manning the best group of wideouts for some years to come.
