NFL Rumors: Jacksonville Looking For A New QB?

Only in Jacksonville would a team that everyone expected to be fighting for a top-five draft pick end up defying critiques only to lose a must-win home game to Rex Grossman and the under whelming Redskins. Despite their best effort to end their season Jacksonville still has a chance of winning the division with a Colts loss and win over the Texans.

If Sunday’s lackluster performance showed us anything, it showed us that David Garrard is not quarterback that can consistently play at level required to be a contending football team. Garrard has shown up in years past but has struggled to maintain any level of success.

Gene Frenette of the Florida Times-Union confirms this line of thinking by writing that the teams loss puts the pressure back on David Garrard and Jack Del Rio as it was early on in the season.

Jacksonville passed on Tim Tebow and other quarterback’s during the draft but it may now be time to address the position. The Jaguars haven’t actually drafted a quarterback since 2003. Building for the coming years makes more sense than patching holes to try to keep up with their division foes.

  1. Are we the Jags looking for a NEW QB and do we expect to win on sunday, this sure won’t be good for ticket sales 5 days before our first game of the season. Whats the story is it Jack D’s Fault or David’s

    • Great point about season tickets. Last year Jacksonville did a great job of selling tickets to games that no one wanted but it they’re going to impose a self-inflicted wound before the season starts, there’s likely to be consequences.

Del Rio said that Garrard just couldn’t put together much of any progress and decided to move on just like they did with Byron Leftwich. Still seems crazy to me even though Garrard did look bad during the preseason.
