NFL Rumors: Jake Delhomme’s Future In Cleveland

Now that Mike Holmgren has elected to keep QB Seneca Wallace around for the next three years, the attention turns toward Jake Delhomme and his future with the Cleveland Browns.

Despite Delhomme’s 2011 salary that would pay him $5.4 million, the team doesn’t think that they have cut him.

“I don’t think I can answer if Delhomme will accept a paycut right now,” Browns general manager Tom Heckert told Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer.   “I think Jake really likes Cleveland.”

Browns new head coach Mike Shurmer even mentioned that he would like to have Jake mentor Colt McCoy next season.

I know that the Browns wound up using all three quarterbacks last season but that defiantly wasn’t by design. Retaining all of them for the upcoming season would seem crazy considering the amount of that they would end up allocating to a hodge podge of quarterbacks. If they see McCoy as their future quarterback than keeping Wallace as his backup makes sense and would allow them to bring in a wide receiver that can help their offense.
