NFL Rumors: Larry Fitzgerald’s Future In Arizona

The quarterback situation in Arizona will have a huge impact on what happens whether or not Larry Fitzgerald remains with the Cardinals or not. Recently, the Cardinals weighed Fitzgerald’s opinion on who the team should target at the quarterback position and Larry mentioned Kevin Kolb and Marc Bulger as the two players he would like to play with.

Rotoworld.com mentions that Larry Fitzgerald has a clause in current deal that would only allow the Cardinals to franchise Fitzgerald for the 2012 season if they pay him $23 million. That number is so high that it makes it nearly impossible for a team to allocate that kind money to a position other than quarterback and even that’s debatable.

Fitzgerald has leverage considering that he remains the teams only star player on the offensive side of the ball so the Cardinals will have to get a solid quarterback in place if they intend to workout a contract extension that would keep him in Arizona for the coming years.

There’s a chance that Fitzgeralds stock could take a hit if he has another down year or gets hurt but every free agent runs that risk. He’ll only be 28 next year so I pretty sure that teams will be willing to offer him a big deal even with a down season.
