NFL Rumors: Lions Attempted To Trade Up For Patrick Peterson?

Many feel that the Detroit Lions were one of the winners years NFL draft but their draft could have been dramatically different if the Arizona Cardinals accepted the deal that Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press is reporting that they were offered.

Birkett mentions that the Lions were willing to offer the Cardinals their first-, second- and fourth-round picks in return for the #5 overall pick which would have allowed them to get LSU CB Patrick Peterson. Detroit wound up turning those picks into Nick Fairley, Titus Young and Mikel Leshoure. In hindsight I’m sure they’re ok with Arizona’s decision to turn down their offer.

In the NFL, getting a number of quality players seem to be more beneficial than getting one great player. It’s impossible to predict how this decision is going to workout for Detroit but they should feel great about adding even more young talent to a roster comprised of just that.
