NFL Rumors: Miami Dolphins Backfield Rumors

The Dolphins backfield has generated plenty of speculation in the past few weeks which as led to a flurry of rumors and options for the team to consider.

Ricky Williams

Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post writes that of the two running backs, Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams, he feels as though Williams has the best shot of returning next season.

Williams is likely to be a cost efficient option for teams that are looking to add a complimentary back. Despite his age, Williams has been better than many would have assumed and will likely be considered by the Dolphins.

Marion Barber

Yesterday, Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel wrote that Marion Barber could be another option that the Dolphins may consider. As of now, Barber is under contract with the Dallas Cowboys for the upcoming season and has another $23.25 million remaining on his contract with $4.25 million of that money due for the 2011 season. There remains a pretty good chance that he’ll be released during the offseason.

While there are some connections between the Dolphins and Barber, this seems like a long-shot at this point in time.

DeAngelo Williams

Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel also speculated on Wednesday that DeAngelo Williams fits the Dolphins pretty well. He also mentioned that he has risen to the top of the Dolphins wish list.

The idea is pretty interesting but as we pointed out previously, there is no indication that Williams is interested in joining the team especially when you consider all of the questions that surround the teams roster and the fact that the Jets and Patriots are dominating the division.
