NFL Rumors: Redskins Trading Up For Blaine Gabbert?

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle writes that the Washington Redskins are “trying like crazy” to trade up for one of the top two quarterback prospects in this years draft. McClain mentions that Gabbert is likely the player that they’re after.

Unfortunately for Mike Shanahan and the Redskins, they are without a third and fourth-round pick in this years draft and when you consider that teams are not able to trade players, it leaves them in a really tough position. They could trade some of their 2012 picks but considering that there’s no guarantee that there will even be a draft in 2012, NFL teams aren’t going to give them much value.

Shanahan could be feeling the pressure after a largely disappointing first season in Washington so making a drastic move such as this would suggest that they are willing to take a huge gamble to solidify one of their biggest issues.

  1. Honestly, that would be stupid because he can drop to #5 to #7 and then they can probably don’t give up that much, I’d stay put or trade down. Trade down to get Locker or Dalton.

    • I agree with you that trading up past No. 5 Gabbert is a bad decision. He’s not considered to be the next Matt Ryan so letting the draft play out is to their benefit.

Locker and Dalton are much better values and the Redskins would be better served by moving down and acquiring an extra draft pick while still getting a quarterback prospect.
