NFL Rumors: Redskins Trading Up No. 2 For Blaine Gabbert?

NFL Networks Jason La Canfora and Kara Henderson are both reporting that Washington Redskins have interest in trading up to No. 2 to take Missouri QB Blaine Gabbert.

There appears to be a lot of interest in the Broncos No. 2 pick as we’ve already mentioned that the Houston Texans could be interested in moving for a defensive player.

La Canfora notes that there’s a good chance that Redskins could stay at No. 10 and still have a shot at Gabbert.

In recent days, Gabbert draft stocks appears to be falling so I’d have to agree with La Canfora that Washington will have a chance to get Gabbert without giving up the majority of their draft. Moving up from No. 10 to No. 2 would be a very costly move that would be reminiscent of when Mike Ditka give up the New Orleans Saints 1999 draft for the right to take Ricky Williams.

Mike Shanahan could be feeling the pressure to solidify the quarterback position after last seasons disastrous handling of Donovan McNabb but taking a chance on a quarterback that’s not considered to be a home run prospect would be a huge gamble for the Redskins.
