NFL Rumors: Robert Gallery Heading To Seattle?

On Friday, the Oakland Raiders mentioned that G Robert Gallery wasn’t likely to return to the team for the 2011 season due to contract differences. Raiders senior executive John Herrera said that “the only thing that was mutually agreed upon is his numbers were way out of line with ours.”

Herrera said that Gallery was looking for a contract that would have paid him around $8 million a season and added that the team was only willing to offer him $2.5 million per season. Gallery has been a decent player recent years but paying $8 million per season is to crazy for even Al Davis.

The obvious destination for Gallery, once a new CBA is in place, would be Seattle. Former head coach Tom Cable has taken over as the teams assistant head coach/offensive line coach and considering that the Seahawks need help and size on their offensive line, Gallery makes plenty of sense.

Another option being tossed around is the New England Patriots but Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com doesn’t see them spending the kind of money that Gallery will be seeking.

“My feeling is that Gallery will probably be out of the financial ballpark the Patriots will be willing to go. On a related note, in 2004, I remember Bill Belichick saying that he would have picked Gallery No. 1 in the draft, and that Gallery could play in any scheme.”
