Arkansas QB Ryan Mallett appears to be the biggest enigma in this years draft class. He’s been rumored to be taken as high as No. 8 overall to midway through the second-round.
NFL Network’s Mike Mayock sees Mallett going in the first-round because of physical tools and understanding of the position.
“Because of his football ability and his football IQ, somebody is gonna reach up into the 20s and take him,” Mayock said on Monday’s Path to the Draft.
The only knock on him is the character issues that he hasn’t been able to shake throughout his college career.
After watching him on Jon Gruden’s QB Camp, I’d have to say that he was the most impressive player in attendance. Mallett showed a great understanding of play-development and defensive schemes which is something that the other prospects will have to work on. Pair that with fact that he’s already proven to be the most talented passer of the group and it seems like he has pretty high ceiling.
If he makes it past Minnesota at No. 12, there’s a good chance that someone will make the move up to get him.
