NFL Rumors: San Francisco 49ers Rumors

Here’s a look at some of the topics surrounding the San Francisco 49ers that have been circulating through the rumors mill this morning.

Jim Harbaugh

Both ESPN’s Adam Schefter and the NFL Network Jason La Canfora have provided updates on the rumors that have linked Standfords head coach Jim Harbaugh to the 49ers job.

La Canfora mentions that he continues to hear that the 49ers have Harbaugh as their top coaching candidate and those within the organization believe that they a viable option for Harbaugh.

Adam Schefter believes that 49ers will go after Harbaugh but mentions Marvin Lewis as a potential contingency plan if they miss out on Harbaugh.

Alex Smith

After Sunday’s convincing win over the Arizona Cardinals, the San Jose Mercury News asked Alex Smith whether he thought there was a chance that he would be back next season.  “Are you being serious?” Smith said. “Uh . . . no.”

Interestingly enough, Smith said that he wouldn’t rule out the chance that he could return to San Francisco next year while he spoke to reporters after the game. Obviously Smith felt more comfortable making pointed comments one-on-one than in a room full of people.

Smith was able to increase his production this season and is still only 26 which leaves him with enough time to become more successful than his first few season with the 49ers.
