NFL Rumors: Titans Drafting Cam Newton?

Hall of Fame quarterback Warren Moon has been working with Cam Newton for some time now to get him prepared for the upcoming NFL draft. Newton has been a magnet for both media attention and controversy throughout his college career but Moon feels that Newton’s upside far outweighs any of the concerns that people have.

In an interview with Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean, Moon said that “I think now it’s about time I reach out to him and let him in on Cam. Now I have no idea what Mike is thinking as far as where he wants to go, but I know they don’t have a (quarterback) right now and I know this guy is going to be special. I’m just going to tell him what I know as he tries to make his decision.”

Moon played with new Titans head coach Mike Munchak for a number of years when they were still the Houston Oilers so it’s not known how big of an influence Moon will have on Munchak but his endorsement should have some weight.

“I think Munch respects me and I think he respects my opinion and I think he would feel like I wouldn’t associate myself with somebody unless I really felt like they had a chance to be good or great,” Moon said. “There are a lot of other guys I could probably work with but this guy is special.”

Despite Moon’s recommendation, there really is no guarantee that Newton will be available at No. 8. Auburns pro day only helped to increase Newton’s draft stock and he has been climbing up draft experts big boards and mock drafts so it would be surprising to one of the teams that have a need at quarterback pass on him.
