NFL Rumors: Vikings Considering Starting Ponder?

Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier seems confident in Christian Ponder‘s abilities and made it clear that he’ll have a legitimate shot at starting for them in 2011.

“Ideally, I’d like for him to be ready to go when we play San Diego (on Sept. 11),” Frazier said during an interview with 1500 ESPN Twin Cities.

“That would be the ideal situation — we’ve got our Matt Ryan, we’ve got our Flacco, we’ve got our Sanchez right here,” said Frazier. “But because of the uncertainty of the offseason, it’s just hard to determine exactly how you want to approach it.”

Despite his support for Ponder, Frazier is aware that the current lockout could negatively impact his ability to get ready for the upcoming season.

Rumors still suggest that the Vikings have interest in Donovan McNabb which may be a solid contingency plan if teams are not able to start their offseason workouts and OTA’s.
