NFL Rumors: Vikings Hope To Keep Rice & Greenway

Vikings vice president of player personnel Rick Spielman mentioned today that the team intends on keeping WR Sidney Rice and LB Chad Greenway this offseason.

“We’re going through that process,” said Rick Spielman, Vikings vice president of player personnel, via the Minneapolis Star Tribune. “I think you tie that into your whole process, on whether you’re going to utilize that franchise tag or not. But anything from any type of roster moves or franchise tag or anything like that, we’ll probably not buckle up here until another week or two.”

The Vikings have been rumored to be considering using both the franchise and transition tags on Rice and Greenway but there still is some uncertainty as to what they’ll end up doing. Spielman sounds as though he’d rather buy some time to consider all possible options which is probably the right move.

The one thing that’s for certain is that the 2011 Minnesota Vikings will be a lot younger than the last years team.

“We’re going to be a younger team for sure going into next season. Rookies are going to get forced into action. They are going to have to step up and play,” Spielman said.
